One of the host sites for the summer internships supported by our foundation is SEFAG Zrt. Szántódi Forestry of the SEFAG. The July internship led by the head of the hunting sector László Jakus was attended by one student of wildlife engineering from the University of Sopron and one from the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences. During the two weeks of the internship, the students were given an insight into the everyday management of 12,500 hectares of game - they took part in game observation, game damage surveys, the construction of a ditch, learned about methods of game damage control, and the construction and maintenance of various game management equipment.
"This two-week internship was very useful for me as I gained a lot of new knowledge and practical experience. The management and the professional hunters in charge of the district have a very high level and a lot of professional knowledge and they tried to give us as much knowledge as possible. I am glad that I was able to spend this internship with such good professionals, during which I had a lot of experience. First of all, I would like to mention the time we went out with the wildlife assessor to survey a glass duck board, and secondly, the evening observations and hunting sessions, when we saw a lot of game. The first weekend was also the most exciting for me, as we saw more than a hundred fallow deer and roe deer packs and many beautiful bulls in the wildlife garden. Another great experience for me was our night stalking and stalking trips, when we saw a lot of game with the help of thermal cameras and learned how to use the electronic game call. I am glad that we were able to see the daily life of professional hunters and that we were able to do our share of the work in a useful way. I'm also glad that we were able to learn how to use the newly introduced electronic logbook (HAMS) system and to help with the drawing of the hunting zones."
